62/365: Waiting for the last train

Work brought me to DC, though I won’t subject you to any photos of THAT. But I did enjoy my evening in DC (once I finally arrived), despite the barbarically early time for the last subway train on the Washington Metro (12:12 a.m.). (Or even the concept of a last train.) In the above photo, the man is not entirely innocent (or smart, given the presence of the third rail).

A few other photos of the abbreviated evening:

And the incredibly helpful signage on the train (presumably they could have the next stop? the time? anything else?)

n.b. I have actually kept up with the photo of the day, but am just a wee bit behind in posting them. That figures not to immediately improve (though I will try to get near caught up), as work has me in Prague right now. But, on the other hand, work has me in Prague right now. (If I could only get rid of that work, though.)

61/365: Snow day

A snow day on the east coast, along with an indication of why snow usually doesn’t stay around too long.

Sunset on the creek on a pleasant winter day, with different forms of water converging.

A warm day led to a few random ice formations on the few bits of snow scattered around campus.

32/365: The shapes of water

1 02 2009

A warm day produced a large flow in the nearby creek, smoothing the ice as it melted it away.

25/365: Rapids in winter

25 01 2009

A log in a mostly iced-over creek (except in the immediate vicinity of the falls) provided an incentive for a neutral density filter and small aperture in a low-light situation.

10/365: Myrtle Avenue subway platform, 2 a.m., with snow

10 01 2009

An unmodified photo of the Myrtle Avenue subway platform at 2 a.m. on a snowy winter evening. The artificial lighting, snow, ice, and relatively empty platform combined to make a scene of cold industrial isolation. The beer contributed to some technical imperfections, but this image is very true to way my neurons have encoded this moment in my mind.
