61/365: Snow day

2 03 2009

A snow day on the east coast, along with an indication of why snow usually doesn’t stay around too long.

57/365: Drink to the band

26 02 2009

A drink left behind by another patron, with the singer-guitarist in the background. (Also, a fun show (and a 2-hour set)!)

56/365: Frosty top

25 02 2009

I was greeted with frost when I returned to my car late tonight. But the interplay of frost and security lighting provided an expected surface and mix of colors.

38/365: Winter Reflections

7 02 2009

Sunset on the creek on a pleasant winter day, with different forms of water converging.

35/365: Ice defying gravity

4 02 2009

0204icecave1787

A warm day led to a few random ice formations on the few bits of snow scattered around campus.

32/365: The shapes of water

1 02 2009

0201mottledice1743

A warm day produced a large flow in the nearby creek, smoothing the ice as it melted it away.

29/365: Icy footprint

29 01 2009

0129icyfootprint4332

Footprints in ice were the signature image on the campus today, after yesterday’s rain turned all of the remaining snow into a smooth sheet of ice across campus.

25/365: Rapids in winter

25 01 2009

0125icedlog4242a

A log in a mostly iced-over creek (except in the immediate vicinity of the falls) provided an incentive for a neutral density filter and small aperture in a low-light situation.

10/365: Myrtle Avenue subway platform, 2 a.m., with snow

10 01 2009

0110myrtleave2amsnow1450

An unmodified photo of the Myrtle Avenue subway platform at 2 a.m. on a snowy winter evening. The artificial lighting, snow, ice, and relatively empty platform combined to make a scene of cold industrial isolation. The beer contributed to some technical imperfections, but this image is very true to way my neurons have encoded this moment in my mind.
