One of the most enjoyable things about working on a university campus is the continual infusion of energy from the students. Like this display that I encountered when walking to lunch – many, many pieces of cake on paper plates around a mostly empty blanket. When I returned an hour later, few if any pieces of cake had been eaten. Was it political (let them eat cake)? A social experiment (how will people react?)? Karmic? Somebody just felt like baking (perhaps in a certain state the night before)? All of the above? I don’t know. But I was definitely amused.
