164/365: The High Line

The High Line is a brilliant new public park that recently opened in NYC. The elevated park runs along the old High Line railroad track (itself an engineering marvel, see below), which had been abandoned and over the years overtaken by wild plants. The park allows the visitor to walk among the wild plants, residuals of railroad tracks, and through buildings along the train line, elevated a floor above the city. It merits all of the superlatives it has received (especially exuberant were the tweets from the opening weekend, mine included).

P365 has taught me that flowers are a photographic nemesis of mine. (There have been far more flower attempts than actual flower postings.) But I think that today the flowers decided to be kind to my lens.

One of the things I most enjoy about visiting Ireland is the wide variation in terrain, both natural and human-created.

Kells Priory, the spectacular ruins of a fortified, enclosed priory dating to the 1100s (remarkably serene and free of visitors):

87/365: Gray stones under blue skies

The color contrasts between the sights visited (above: flowers in front of the castle in Carrick-on-Suir; below Cahir Castle) and the colors of the sky and land were most noteworthy.

Notably, Cahir Castle was one of my favorite castles to ever visit. A physically imposing defensive castle, they chose minimal displays and maximal ability for the visitor to explore throughout, including climbing on and through the walls (some a bit perilous) and a great multilevel dungeon.

Spring is always refreshing, but the appearance of new P365 subjects (and new colors) has been particularly welcome this spring.
