I was greeted with frost when I returned to my car late tonight. But the interplay of frost and security lighting provided an expected surface and mix of colors.

One of the things that I am enjoying about P365 is that it has gotten me to much better understand the limits and capabilities of my cameras. Back in the days of 35 mm film cameras, I had a reasonable amateur ability to do basic macro photography (both with lenses and with extension tubes). Alas, by the time I started to get some consistency in quality, I went digital (with an early 2 MP camera), and both the quality of my photography and the range of things I attempted to do dropped precipitously. (I blame the viewfinder and the fact that my field of view is less restricted (i.e. more distracted) when using an LCD viewfinder. The inexpensive per-shot cost also encouraged poorly considered composition. Though that first faculty position consuming my time probably had the most to do with it.)

P365 (with the help of the Canon G9) has gotten me thinking about issues of exposure more critically (i.e. more geekily). And I’ve (very, very belatedly) recognized that the smaller sensor in P+S digitals can be a huge advantage in macro photography, to the point that it’s (finally) starting to change the way I conceive shots.
